Senator Christopher “Bong” Go had dispelled rumors that Duterte is in ill health after the President’s joke about having a cancer risk was blown up by the media.
In a radio interview Saturday (August 29), Go said there was nothing to worry about Duterte’s health despite having Barrett’s esophagus, an ailment he contracted as a result of smoking in his younger years.
“Alam ninyo, mahigit 22 years na kaming magkasama ni Pangulo at halos taun-taon ko nang naririnig ang Barrett’s esophagus na ‘yan. Naikukuwento niya kung kani-kanino, ‘di naman ganun kalala. Nakukuwento niya na habang tumatanda tayo, marami nang ipinagbabawal,” the senator said.
Go said Duterte will finish his term and live long.
“Huwag po kayong mag-alala at ‘yung mga nagpapakalat ng balita, ‘wag po kayong mag-aalala, ‘di totoo ‘yun, at kayang-kaya ni Pangulong Duterte na tapusin ang kaniyang termino and live beyond his term,” he said.
Speculation about Duterte’s health grew recently after he said that his doctor told him he was nearing stage one cancer.
Quoting his doctor during an August 25 televised briefing, Duterte said: “Ikaw Duterte, huwag ka nang uminom kasi ‘yang Barrett mo nearing stage one ka sa cancer.”
