President Rodrigo Duterte may appoint Dr. Jaime Cruz as officer-in-charge (OIC) to head the PhilHealth while Ricardo Morales goes on medical leave next week.
When asked about the possibility of Cruz to sit as Philhealth OIC, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque told reporters Thursday, “Anything is possible.”
It can be recalled that Duterte considered the chief executive officer of JTC Group of Companies to replace then PhilHealth chief Roy Ferrer following the “ghost dialysis” controversy last year.
Roque, however, clarified that “GOCC (government-owned and controlled corporation) po ang PhilHealth. Hindi naman po si Presidente talaga ang nagtatalaga diyan. Even in terms of appointment mayroon lang siyang ‘I wish to elect’ doon sa mga board.”
Malacañang, meanwhile, said it will allow the investigation into the alleged corruption in the state-run health insurance agency to proceed.
Duterte had ordered Justice Secretary Menardo Guevara to form a multi-agency task force that would investigate, audit, recommend suspension, and conduct lifestyle checks on several PhilHealth officials and employees.
