President Rodrigo Duterte has postponed the opening of classes to October.

The school year was initially scheduled to begin on August 24.

“Please be informed that pursuant to the instructions of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, and as recommended by the DepEd (Department of Education), the opening of classes is deferred to October 5, 2020,” Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said in a letter dated August 14 and addressed to Education Secretary Leonor Briones.

Medialdea also instructed the department to ensure that all preparations have been made for the “smooth and successful” virtual school opening next month.
