Duterte to visit Jolo blast site today

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte will fly to Sulu province today, Sunday to visit the wake of soldiers killed in two successive bomb explosions in Jolo town recently.

“I’m going to Jolo. Diretso ako ngayon sa Jolo, doon sa blast site,” Duterte said during an online concert dedicated to the chief executive on August 30.

“Mabigyan ko lang ang mga sandalo natin, mga sundalo ko, mga pulis ko ng importansya sa kanilang kamatayan. I’ll go there to fulfill the duty of a commander-in-chief,” he added.

Malacañang earlier condemned the explosion incidents and assured that authorities are conducting an investigation into the “dastardly” attacks.

Jolo residents were also urged to remain vigilant and report concerns about unusual behavior.

“We call on the residents of Jolo to stay vigilant and report suspicious personalities and unattended items in their areas,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.

At least 15 people, including seven soldiers and one policeman, were killed and wounded dozens of others after two powerful explosions rocked downtown Jolo on Monday.
