
The death of former Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim has triggered an outpouring of grief and tribute from fellow politikos.
Former President Joseph Estrada, former Vice President Jojo Binay, Senator Koko Pimentel, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, and several other politikos took to social media to mourn the death of Lim and remember his exemplary service to the nation.
Lim, a former senator and former Interior and Local Government Secretary, passed away on August 8. Lim, who earned the moniker Dirty Harry for his tough anti-crime campaign, was 90.
In a Facebook post, Estrada expressed sadness over the passing o f Lim. He said they were political rivals but had the same goal of improving the plight of the poor especially in Manila.
“Naging magkatunggali man kami sa pulitika, alam ko na iisa lang ang aming hangarin, ang mabigyan ng magandang buhay ang mahihirap nating mga kababayan, lalo na ang Masang Manilenyo. Hinding-hindi ka malilimutan ng Maynila. Rest In Peace, Mayor Lim,” Estrada said.
Binay also offered his condolences to the family of Lim, and remembered the former Manila mayor for his dedication to public service.
“Kasabayan ko rin sa serbisyo publiko si Mayor Lim pagkatapos ng EDSA revolution at talagang hindi makakaila ang kanyang dedikasyon sa bayan at mga Pilipino. Mula sa aking pamilya, ang aming pakikiramay at dasal para sa mga mahal sa buhay ni Mayor Lim,” he said in a Facebook post.
Pimentel is also saddened by the passing of Lim, calling him “a beloved and well respected party mate.”
“Through his support for PDP Laban, he became a true friend of mine. We will certainly miss his words of wisdom, advice, friendship, and support. Rest in peace my friend,” Pimentel wrote on Facebook.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno also expressed his sympathy over the death of Lim, saying the former Manila mayor will never be forgotten.
“Hinding hindi ka namin lilimutin. Maraming salamat po sa serbisyo sa aming mga Batang Maynila,” he said in a Facebook post.
Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero also sent a message of condolence via social media. “Rest in peace, Manong Fred. May God bless your family and loved ones during this time of sorrow,” the former senator said in a Facebook post.
