Former Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairperson Sixto Brillantes died Tuesday (August 11). He was 80 years old.
The death of Brillantes was confirmed by Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez. He said the former poll body chief died a little past 11 a.m.
Brillantes died three days before his 81st birthday on August 14. Last month, his daughter Zeena asked for prayers because he contracted COVID-19.
“Someone recently told me that prayers are better when they are specific. Please include our dad, Sixto Brillantes Jr., in your prayers. Please. “#COVIDay11 #IntubationDay1 #PleasePapa,” Zeena said in a Facebook post.
Brillantes served as Comelec chairman from January 2011 to February 2015, serving the unexpired term of his predecessor, Jose Melo.
