Health Secretary Francisco Duque III attended Tuesday (August 18) the Senate committee of the whole’s hearing on the alleged irregularities in the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth).
Duque, who chairs Philhealth’s board of directors, joined the hearing through videoconferencing.
Tuesday’s hearing marks the first time that Duque is taking part in the Senate’s investigation on fresh corruption allegations hounding Philhealth.
Some senators previously criticized Duque for his silence on the controversies involving the state health insurer.
Duque is currently under quarantine after being exposed to Interior Secretary Eduardo Ano, who tested positive for COVID-19.
Also present at the Senate hearing were the six regional vice presidents who recently went on leave—Dennis Adre, William Chavez, Paolo Johan Perez, Atty. Valerie Hollero, Masiding Alonto Jr., and Atty. Khaliquzzman Macabato.
The six regional vice presidents had been tagged as part of the so called “Mindanao group” within Philhealth, though whisteleblowers have cleared them of involvement in any wrongdoing.
