Government okays ‘stricter’ general quarantine in NCR

By Prince Golez

The Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases has approved the request of Metro Manila mayors to implement “stricter” general community quarantine (GCQ) in the capital region.

“There was an NTF (National Task Force) meeting and we considered the recommendations of the mayors to actually impose stricter GCQ,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an interview with CNN Philippines Wednesday.

“When we consulted the mayors, they were in agreement that it should be GCQ but it should be of a strict type similar to what was imposed in June when we imposed GCQ,” he added.

Roque stressed that localized and granular lockdowns will be “aggressively” pursued in GCQ areas such as the National Capital Region and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal.

“There will be no mass gatherings. Mass gatherings are limited only to 10 persons inclusive of religious services. There will be no gyms, internet cafes, review centers, and tutorial centers, they will remain closed,” according to him.

“The restaurants and salons can open but the capacity to be determined by the LGUs (local government units). Curfews are from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. LGUs can issue quarantine passes even under GCQ.

“Needless to say in areas that are covered by localized or granular lockdowns, quarantine passes are a must and back ride is allowed provided the passenger is an (Authorized Persons Outside Residence). If they live in the same address, no need for barrier; but if they live in different addresses, it will have to be Angkas-like barriers,” he concluded.
