Here's What We Can Tell from Kia PH's Stonic SUV Teaser

After teasing it to members of the motoring press, Kia Philippines has finally made it official: the Stonic sub-compact SUV is coming this October. No exact date was given on their social media accounts, but it does give us our first full look at this new crossover which is expected to slot below the Seltos in both size and positioning.

You can watch the teaser below, but assuming that the photo used is representative of the Philippine-spec model, here’s what we can expect:
  • Two-tone color options. Similar to the top-of-the-line Seltos, Kia Philippines may offer the Stonic with a contrasting black roof along with gloss-black side mirrors with built-in repeaters. It’s likely though that it’ll be offered either as an option or only for the top-trim variant (assuming Kia Philippines will bring in more than one variant).
  • Chrome radiator grille. The Stonic is offered with two kinds of radiator grille patterns—a solid chrome radiator grille, or a sportier metallic-silver radiator grille. Based on the teaser photo, the Philippine model will get the former.
  • Simpler headlights. Based on the headlight pattern on the teaser, we won’t be getting the mildly-refreshed Stonic that Europe’s getting; we’ll be sticking to the one found in the Korean market. We do get projector-type headlight with LED DRLs.
  • No front fog lights. With no bright work in the fog lamp cluster, it’s fairly easy to deduce that the Stonic won’t be offered with front fog lights. Instead, it’ll get a plain plastic trim with built-in air curtains that direct airflow to the brakes.
  • “Skybridge” roof racks. Started by the Seltos, the Stonic will have these stylized roof racks which are influenced by the architecture of high-altitude bridges for that techie look.
So far, these are the details that we could pinpoint in Kia Philippines’s 15-second trailer (did we miss anything?). Of course, for all we know, this could very well be a red herring designed to deceive us for what’s really in store (they did have to make some noise with the launch of the Corolla Cross this week, after all). Either way, all eyes will be on Kia this October.
