ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro said the return of the modified enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila and adjacent provinces was not what medical frontliners were looking for.
“Our healthcare workers have recommended not just a timeout,” the Makabayan lawmaker said.
Castro said the health workers had raised to the President “real and legitimate issues on the overwhelmed state of our healthcare system and health workers nationwide.”
“They listed specific demands on medical solutions and pleaded that government address them,” she said.
But last night, “the President gave no assurance that it will happen and instead turned the tables on our health professionals.”
“Kumbaga, matigas na nga ang ulo at di sumusunod sa reseta, sinisi at inaway pa yung nagreseta,” Castro lamented.
She said Duterte and the IATF “should fully address the demands of healthcare workers, point by point, and on a national scale.”
“Come up with a comprehensive plan for mass testing, contact tracing, isolation, and treatment. Hire enough healthcare workers, including contact tracers, with adequate compensation and just benefits. Implement that plan as soon as possible, nationwide, with health professionals at the lead and not the military and police directing everyone else around,” she said.
“If the president really listened, what our doctors ordered was a medical quarantine, not a military lockdown,” she said.
“Simply placing Metro Manila, Region IV-A and Bulacan in MECQ again without these medical solutions is, to paraphrase the President’s own words, just ‘putting Filipinos in prison.’ Ang masahol diyan, kung sino pa ang walang kasalanan at pagkukulang para maparusahan ay pinagpapatuloy lang ang kamalian nila,” Castro said.
