Nadaan sa sindak! Duterte’s warning prompts LGUs to approve 1,502 telco tower applications

Local government units (LGUs) scrambled to approve permits for building cellular towers after President Rodrigo Duterte told them to act on applications within three days.

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año told Duterte during a late night meeting Monday (August 10) that 80 LGUs have approved a total of 1,502 out of 1,930 applications.

Año said the requirements for building towers have been reduced from around 86 documents down to 35 documents. He said they have improved the system to cut red tape.

Duterte warned local politikos earlier this month that they could be charged with corruption or face possible suspension by sitting on telcos’ applications for building cellular towers.
