October 5 opening to give DepEd time to prepare: Palace

By Prince Golez

The postponement of school opening from August 24 to October 5 will afford the Department of Education (DepEd) enough time to ensure the successful opening of classes for School Year 2020-2021.

Last Friday, President Rodrigo Duterte issued a memorandum ordering the opening of classes to be moved next month due to lockdown restrictions in Metro Manila and other nearby provinces under modified enhanced community quarantine.

In a separate statement, Duterte’s mouthpiece said the class deferment applies to both public and private schools.

“However, for private schools which have started to conduct online classes they shall proceed holding classes, subject to present health protocols following the declared quarantine classification in their respective areas,” he added.
