MalacaƱang on Monday echoed the call of President Rodrigo Duterte for the city and municipal councils to act on the applications of telecommunication companies for the construction of cell sites within three days.
“Panawagan sa lahat ng mga konseho sa buong Pilpinas, kung kayo naman po ay hindi kasama sa (modified enhanced community quarantine), kinakailangan po aktuhan lahat ng mga application ng telecoms company at iba pang kumpanya within 3 days dahil meron naman tayong batas diyan yung anti-red tape law,” according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
In his Talk to the People Address on August 2, Duterte warned that council members may face prosecution if they delay the passage of an ordinance for at least three days.
“I’m telling you now, kayong mga municipal, city or I do not know if the Provincial Board is included, ‘pag hindi ninyo inilabas ‘yan beginning today, I’m going to give you exactly three days, report to the DILG, city, provincial,” according to him.
“The clock is ticking except on the days we do not hold office, I will count the 72 hours weekdays. Tapos for example if it has been there on Monday, then two to three days should be on Thursday,” he added.
Duterte had earlier threatened to expropriate telcos Globe and Smart if they failed to improve their services by December.
Last Friday, Globe Telecom President and CEO Ernest Cu told the chief executive that government red tape has hindered them from building telco towers.
