Palace to newly graduated nurses: Charity begins at home

By Prince Golez

MalacaƱang on Monday encouraged fresh nursing graduates to gain clinical expertise in the Philippines before heading off overseas.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque advised health workers seeking jobs abroad to stay home and serve the country while it continues to battle the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

“Charity begins at home. Meron naman po tayong bakanteng mga posisyon. Dito na muna sana tayo magtrabaho,” Roque said in his virtual presser.

“Speaking as someone with experience in recruitment industry of nurses, yung mga bagong graduates at saka yung mga hindi na po clinical kinakailangan po, kung gusto niyo magtrabaho abroad, magkaroon po kayo ng clinical experiences dito,” according to him.

“Sa tingin ko kapag kayo ay nag-apply sa emergency recruitment ng ating gobyerno at nagtrabaho habang may COVID, pag-aagawan kayo lalo pag matapos itong pandemic na ito dahil with your clinicial experience at the time of COVID you would become the subject of head hunters,” he also said.

Thursday last week, Roque announced that the overseas deployment ban on healthcare workers would remain in effect for those who do not have contracts signed as of March 8.
