Roque apologizes to Duterte for ‘perpetual isolation’ remark: ‘Wrong choice of words’

By Prince Golez

Palace Spokesman Harry Roque has issued a public apology to President Rodrigo Duterte for his statement that the chief executive is in “perpetual isolation” in Davao City.

In his Monday press briefing, Roque took responsibility for his poor choice of words.

“Bagamat makikita ko si Presidente mamaya, baka wala akong pagkakataon. I would like to publicly apologize to the President for past mistakes I had last Monday lalung-lalo na doon sa sinabi kong ‘perpetual isolation,’” the Palace official said.

“Wrong choice of words po. Pero what I meant only that the Presidential Security Group (PSG) has been doing a good job at ensuring that there is social distancing between anyone who wants to talk to the President. Pasensya po,” he added.

Roque had earlier clarified that his use of “perpetual isolation” to describe Duterte’s condition was only a “figure of speech” to highlight “the prudence exercised by the PSG in safeguarding the physical well-being of the President in this challenging time of Covid-19.
