Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri wants officials of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) who are dragged into corruption allegations suspended while parallel investigations on the agency are ongoing.
In an interview over ANC’s “Headstart,” Zubiri was asked if he supports calls to replace Philhealth chief Ricardo Morales over the recent controversy to affect the agency.
Zubiri said replacing officials could come after the probe is finished.
“You don’t have to replace at this point in time. Maybe we could suspend them initially so that the investigation would not be unhampered. And then come up with replacements once the investigation is done,” he said.
Several government bodies are conducting investigations on allegations of corruption within Philhealth. Among these are the Senate, House of Representatives, Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission and National Bureau of Investigation.
Morales has been advised by his doctor to go on a leave of absence as he is undergoing chemotherapy for lymphoma.
