Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV is confident ABS-CBN will be granted a franchise after the Duterte administration– if the opposition’s candidate becomes the next president.
Trillanes made the prediction Saturday (August 30), a day after several ABS-CBN employees bid farewell to the network. Kapamilya bosses earlier announced they will retrench a huge part of their workforce by August 31.
“Mark my words, ABSCBN’s franchise would be granted once the opposition wins in 2022,” the former senator tweeted.

The opposition has yet to say who it will field in the 2022 presidential race, though some have been pointing at Vice President Leni Robredo as a viable candidate.
The House of Representatives legislative franchises committee in July denied ABS-CBN’s bid to have a fresh, 25-year franchise. The network currently airs the Kapamilya Network channel and its news programs via cable and online platforms.
