Public told: Expect cops, soldiers to enforce quarantines

By Prince Golez

MalacaƱang on Tuesday said the government will employ troops to enforce lockdown protocols during the 14-day duration of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

The public should expect the police and the military to implement quarantines on communities, according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

“Back to lockdown po tayo so asahan niyo po ang pulis at hukbong sandatahan ay magpapatupad ng lockdown sa iba’t-ibang komunidad lalung-lalo na doon sa mga granular at hard lockdowns,” Roque said in his online public briefing.

Last Sunday, President Rodrigo Duterte placed Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal under MECQ following the medical frontliners’ plea to reimpose strict lockdown measures amid rising cases of coronavirus disease in the country.

Under this scheme, public transport is not allowed and only industries providing essential goods and services can operate.
