While I’m not completely sold on Mazda’s new “Carbon Edition,” here’s some news that’s welcome to just about every aspiring CX-9 owner: it’s getting an even more upscale interior for 2021.
Mazda’s press bit delved straight into what’s new in the CX-9: a larger 10.25-inch center display for the Mazda Connect system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and standard i-Activsense which bundles adaptive radar-based cruise control with stop-and-go function, forward collision warning with automatic braking, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
On the Signature model which is the top-trim here in the Philippines, the differences are much more pronounced. Outside, the 2021 CX-9 adds a new titanium gray metallic front grille with LED grille accent lighting, new 20-inch wheels with a brilliant silver finish, and larger tailpipes. Inside, it gets quilted and piped Nappa leather seats, Santos Rosewood interior trim, and patterned aluminum trim on the dashboard and handle bezels—interior details you tend to find in a Bentley Bentayga.
Shame Mazda could only provide one interior photo of the refreshed CX-9 and you can see it below.
In the U.S., it will arrive at dealerships there later this month. With the hefty discounts and promotions done by Mazda Philippines on the current CX-9, it’s just going to be a matter of time when this refreshed flagship SUV will arrive as well.
