Welfare of modern-day heroes gov’t’s priority

By Prince Golez

The government is looking after the wellbeing of health care workers during this challenging time, the National Task Force against Covid-19 (NTF Covid-19) said.

“Ako ay nananawagan sa ating mga healthcare workers na kayo po ang aming mga bayani ngayon. Alam po natin na ang fight against Covid-19 na ‘to ay talagang kayo po ang inaasahan ng ating bayan,” NTF Covid-19 Chief Implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. said during the recent ceremonial turnover of We Heal As One off-site dormitories in Quezon City.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the last two of the six clusters of off-site dormitories dedicated to medical frontliners assigned at national and local health facilities in the city.

Each cluster is equipped with 32 beds. The off-site dormitories can accommodate 192 health care workers.

“Itong natunghayan nating ceremonial turnover sa ating dormitories ng healthcare workers ay isang patunay ng paga-alalay ng ating national government sa ating local government at ‘yong talagang total care natin sa ating mga healthcare workers,” Galvez also said.

For his part, DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain said the construction of the off-site dormitories is among the aggressive measures being carried out by the government to scale up isolation facilities across the country.

“Ako po ay nagagalak kasi we have finally completed the two remaining off-site dormitories for our medical health workers. This is part of the national response on isolation para maka-address sa COVID response natin,” according to him.

The national government has so far completed 310 out of the 490 isolation facilities nationwide, which has a total bed capacity of 20,000.
