Be more proactive: Go tells gov’t to give free masks in markets, other public places

The government should be more proactive in enforcing the mandatory use of masks among people to fight the coronavirus , Senator Christopher Go said Tuesday.

The President’s former assistant asked the government to conduct free mask giveaway especially in areas frequented by the public.

Go, in a Facebook post, said wearing of masks can reduce vulnerability to the virus by 85 percent. It can be further reduced to more than 90 percent if the mask is worn alongside wearing a face shield and observing social distancing.

“Let’s be more proactive in implementing a stricter mask wearing policy. Kung walang mask ang tao, bigyan natin. Lalo na sa mga lugar na madalas puntahan,” Go said.

He said the government can buy locally produced masks, not only to give protection to the public, but to support local businesses.

“Wearing masks can save lives. Buying locally made masks can also provide jobs. Magtulungan po tayo upang makabangon tayo muli mula sa krisis na ito,” he said.

There should also be stricter enforcement of other health protocols to help slow down the coronavirus transmission in the country, Go said.

“I urge concerned agencies to strictly enforce necessary health and safety protocols, especially in public places. Gustuhin man natin bumalik sa normal ang pamumuhay ng mga tao, unahin dapat natin ang kapakanan at buhay ng mga ordinaryong Pilipino,” he said.
