President Rodrigo Duterte made special mention of Filipino migrant workers in his first-ever speech before the United Nations General Assembly, saying they remain on the frontline of public health despite the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
On Wednesday, Duterte said the health crisis has deeply affected not just the health but also the livelihoods of Filipino workers abroad.
“Yet they go on in the frontlines, healing, caring for others in the different parts of the world,” according to him.
“We honor and recognize the healthcare professionals who selflessly answered the call to combat the Covid-19 pandemic despite its virulence and unknown characteristics,” he added.
As the world continues to face an unprecedented threat of Covid-19, Duterte also assured the international body that the Philippines would do its part in the pooling of global resources.
“Our health workers are among the best.”
