‘He murdered an innocent person:’ Liza Soberano calls Pemberton pardon a mistake

For actress Liza Soberano, the American soldier convicted of killing Jennifer Laude should not be allowed to get away with murder.

President Duterte has pardoned US Marine Joseph Scott Pemberton after he was treated unfairly over supposed government lapses in computing his good conduct time credits. The pardon has triggered outrage from many people including the film actress.

“PARDONED?!?!? HE MURDERED AN INNOCENT PERSON. ONE OF OUR PEOPLE. HOW CAN WE LET THAT JUST PASS?” Soberano tweeted on September 7.

She also slammed Duterte for granting pardon to Pemberton, saying it was a mistake. She went to question the loyalty of the President in making such decision.

“Damn at a time when all we need is unity the government decides to make a mistake like this. Who’s side are you on really? Who are you really serving? The people of the Philippines or yourselves?” she said in another post on Twitter.

Pemberton was sentenced to a 10-year prison term in 2015 over Laude’s death. An Olongapo court recently authorized his early release after cutting short his jail term for good conduct.
