The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) has also joined mounting opposition against the Anti-Terrorism Law before the Supreme Court (SC).
IBP President Domingo Egon Cayosa said in a statement the IBP filed on Friday afternoon (Sept. 11) “its petition questioning the constitutionality of key provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Law (R.A. 11479).”
“We pray that the Honorable Supreme Court will uphold the primacy of the Constitution and strike down the questionable provisions and/or R.A 11479 itself for being contrary to the letter and spirit of the fundamental law of our country,” he said.
Meanwhile, Cayosa acknowledged that there around 30 other similar petitions before the SC.
“We recognize the many petitioners from various sectors with varying persuasions who courageously and selflessly filed similar petitions. We thank all who helped bring the very important and controversial issues before the highest court of the land,” he said.
“The sense of responsibility and love of country that may have motivated the contending parties should shine through as this controversy is resolved on the merits in accord with the rule of law,” he added.
