Malaya na! Pemberton leaves PH after Duterte’s pardon

US Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton has been deported from the Philippines Sunday (September 13) after being granted absolute pardon by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Bureau of Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval said the military plane carrying Pemberton left the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at around 9:14 a.m. A white van believed to be transporting Pemberton left Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City for the airport at around 8 a.m.

Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete earlier said Pemberton has been blacklisted in the Philippines over his conviction for homicide for killing Filipina transgender Jennifer Laude in October 2014.

The American soldier was sentenced to six to 10 years in jail for the crime but Duterte pardoned him on September 7.

Prior to Duterte’s pardon, an Olongapo court ordered Pemberton’s release on the argument that he already served his sentence due to the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) credits he accumulated while in prison.
