MalacaƱang on Thursday said it would look into the proposal of a joint committee of the House of Representatives to grant President Rodrigo Duterte emergency powers to fast-track the reforms in the Philippine Health Insurance Corp (PhilHealth).
“Nagpapasalamat po kami sa Kongreso. Pero pag-aralan po natin kung kinakailangan talaga iyang emergency powers na iyan,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an interview over RMN.
“Sa ngayon po, tayo naman po ay may sapat na kapangyarihan bilang isang commander-in-chief ang ating Presidente,” he added.
Last Monday, Duterte appointed former National Bureau of Investigation director Dante Gierran to replace Ricardo Morales as the new PhilHealth president and CEO.
His marching order to Gierran was a reshuffle in the corruption-ridden agency and “find people we can send to jail.”
