Malacañang on Friday urged parents, schools, and religious leaders to protect children from sexual misconduct.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the statement after the Population Commission (POPCOM) reported a rising rate of teenage pregnancy in the Philippines.
POPCOM revealed that 40 to 50 children aged between 10 to 14 years old give birth in the country every week.
“Nananawagan po tayo sa mga magulang, kinakailangan po talagang gabayan ang ating mga kabataan. Sa mga public schools eh nagbibigay naman po sila ng sex education, paigtingan pa po natin yan kabahagi po ng health education,” Roque said in a televised briefing.
“Pati po ang mga simbahan, kinakailanagn po talaga na maging mas aktibo sa pagbibigay pangaral sa ating mga kabataan,” he also said.
