The 2021 MG 5 is Serious About Performance with 173-Horsepower

MG is taking its performance positioning quite seriously and case in point is its all-new MG 5 compact sedan.

Leaked a few months ago, MG has now officially shown its latest compact sedan. Choosing a not-so-sedate shade of yellow for its image color, the 2021 MG 5 takes on the brand’s “third-generation family design,”—the same one seen on the refreshed MG 6 and MG Pilot.

The second-generation MG 5 rides on the same wheelbase (2,680 mm). However, at 4,675 mm long, 1,842 mm wide, and 1,480 mm tall, it’s now slightly longer and wider than a Toyota Corolla Altis.

The 2021 MG 5’s sporty, coupe-like roofline is backed up by a pair of potent 1.5-liter engines—a normally-aspirated version making 120 horsepower and, get this, a turbocharged version making 173 horsepower. The latter should make it a formidable challenger to the Civic RS Turbo.

As with other MG models, it’ll be filled to the brim with convenience features such as push-start ignition, a large infotainment system, digital gauges, and more.
