Velasco wrong to assume Cayetano has word of honor, Trillanes says

Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has given his two cents on the leadership scuffle in the House of Representatives.

Trillanes said Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco is wrong to assume House Speaker Alan Cayetano will honor their term-sharing deal.

Under the agreement, Cayetano serves as House Speaker in the first 15 months of the 18th Congress while Velasco will take over for the remaining 21 months.

The term-sharing deal was brokered by President Duterte last year after Congress leaders sought his intervention.

Trillanes, in a latest post on Twitter, said Cayetano is no gentleman and would unlikely keep his end of the bargain.

“Cong. Velasco is appealing to Cayetano to honor their gentleman’s agreement on term sharing for Speaker. Well, he made 2 crucial errors. First, he assumed that Cayetano is a gentleman. Second, he assumed that Cayetano has a word of honor,” Trillanes said.

Cayetano earlier thanked his allies in Congress for their trust and support as he neared the end of his stint under the term-sharing deal. Many lawmakers however recently issued a manifesto declaring support for his continued leadership of the Lower House.

Velasco has appealed to Cayetano to honor the term-sharing agreement.
