Babawasan bata ni Alan! Velasco mulls change in House committee chairmanships

Speaker Lord Allan Jay Velasco is considering changing some of the committee chairpersons in the House of Representatives even if the term sharing agreement he had with ousted Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano involved replacing only one chairman.

Velasco said he and other House leaders will be checking over the House’s month-long break if there were lawmakers who had more positions than others.

“We will still check the committee memberships kasi sometimes we see na mayroong parang mas maraming nakukuhang positions na medyo hindi naman fair sa iba,” he said.

“If I see there’s ano parang unfair doon sa ibang mga members , yong isa sobrang dami ang nakukuha, then I’ll see whether we can adjust that pero kung wala naman, I won’t change any positions,” Velasco added.

The new Speaker has replaced at least one House leader outside what the term sharing deal provides for. He recently removed Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte, a staunch ally of Cayetano, as Deputy Speaker.

Taking Villafuerte’s place was 1-PACMAN party-list Rep. Mikee Romero, who regained his post after having been replaced by Cayetano as Deputy Speaker at the height of the speakership row with Velasco earlier this month.
