President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday backtracked on his previous statements that he personally killed criminals.
During his weekly Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases meeting, Duterte said he has never ordered anyone to kill.
“Wala ho akong pinatay na tao,” the chief executive said.
“Magtanong ka ng isang pulis dito sa Pilipinas, magtanong ka kay [Interior] Secretary [Eduardo] Año, magtanong ka kay [Defense Sec.] Delfin Lorenzana, at may inutusan ba akong taong sinabi, ‘Patayin mo ito si Mr. Santos, Edmundo Santos, o patayin mo ito si Juan dela Cruz’. I never do that,” he added.
In 2016, Duterte admitted killing three men suspected of kidnapping and rape while mayor of Davao.
At the sidelines of the 2017 APEC summit in Vietnam, the President also boasted stabbing someone to death when he was a teenager.
