President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate allegations of corruption in the government.
Duterte said he issued a memorandum to Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra to investigate alleged anomalies by corrupt officials in the entire government, particularly in the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Public Works and Highways.
“In pursuit of this directive, the DOJ shall have the authority to decide which allegation to investigate taking into consideration the gravity thereof and their impact on the delivery of government service,” the chief executive said during his taped address aired Tuesday morning.
The department, according to him, may create panels and direct other bodies or agencies to assist with the investigation.
“The DOJ shall prosecute and file appropriate charges against all those involved in the anomalies investigate whether against the government or private person as may be warranted by the evidence gathered subject to applicable laws and rules,” he added.
Duterte earlier ordered the DOJ to create a multi-agency task force that would probe allegations of massive corruption inside the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.
