The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is praying that the National Capital Region will soon transition to a more relaxed modified general community quarantine to revive the economy that has been battered by the coronavirus disease pandemic.
In an interview aired over public briefing “Laging Handa,” Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said the country is losing P19.5 billion for each week of lockdown.
“Iyon po ang ating pinagdarasal, dahil araw-araw po na nasa GCQ tayo, we are losing some 19.5 billion in losses to the economy every week because of restrictions sa ating ekonomiya. At kailangan na po nating palitan ang ating polisiya from risk avoidance to risk management,” Malaya said Saturday.
Metro Manila has been under GCQ since August 31 after the reimposition of a two-week modified enhanced community quarantine.
Meanwhile, Malaya expressed concern over the Pulse Asia survey, conducted between September 14 and 20, that only 71 percent of Filipinos regularly washed their hands; 55 percent used face mask; 33 percent observed physical distancing; 28 percent avoided crowded places; and .01 percent wore face shield.
“Ito pong ganitong datos ay nakakabahala kasi lumalabas po na out of 10 people, only seven hand washed; and out of 10 people only five or 5.5 used facemask. Ngunit noong tinanong naman natin sila if they’re worried about getting Covid-19, 97 percent are worried or concerned ngunit hindi naman sila lahat nagpi-facemask – only 5 out of 10,” according to him.
The undersecretary reminded everyone to continue to observe and strictly practice the minimum public health standards to protect themselves against Covid-19.
“Wala namang gamot ito. Wala naman po itong vaccine pa. So the only way that we can protect ourselves and our family is through minimum health standards,” he added.
