Palace says no one to be spared in gov’t-wide corruption probe

By Prince Golez

Malacañang assured that no one will be spared from the government-wide corruption investigation.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the comment after Senator Panfilo Lacson said that the mega corruption task force started “on the wrong foot” because President Rodrigo Duterte repeatedly defended Public Works Secretary Mark Villar and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III against the allegations of corruption against them.

“Naghahanap lang po ng ebidensiya ang Pangulo,” Roque said in a televised briefing Thursday.

“Kahit sino naman po, kahit gaano kalapit sa kaniya, kahit gaano ang pagpuri niya sa nakaraan, kung mayroon naman pong ebidensiya na katiwalian ay parurusahan ng ating Presidente,” he also said.

Roque cited the case of former Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) chief Ricardo Morales who was not exempted from any investigation on the alleged anomalies in the agency despite his closeness to Duterte.

“Nakita po natin iyan dito sa karanasan ni General Morales ng PhilHealth, bagama’t buo ang tiwala ni Presidente kay General Morales nang nagkaroon naman po ng ebidensiya ang Task Force PhilHealth at ibang sangay ng gobyerno, hindi naman po naging hadlang ang Presidente para imbestigahan at litisin si General Morales,” he said.
