Broadcaster Ben Tulfo has slammed netizens critical of learning modules as “hypocrites” who know nothing except call out errors on social media.
In his November 25 column for Pilipino Star Ngayon, Tulfo mentioned the uproar on social media over a module’s depiction of a farmer as poor with tattered clothes. He said being critical appeared to have become an “epidemic” during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Kailan ba natutong magmalasakit ang mga netizen natin sa mga pobreng magsasaka? Dati ang tawag pa nga sa kanila ay ‘hampas lupa’ dahil literal na naghahampas ng lupa para makapagtanim?” Tulfo noted.
He said Filipinos should know more about how farmers live and help them instead of being armchair critics.
“Imbes nakikigulo sa mga away-pulitika at pinasisikat ang mga hashtag ng panggigiba sa mga pulitiko, bakit walang nakakaalalang ipaglaban din ang sitwasyon ng magsasaka. Bakit hindi #BangonMagsasakangPilipino #AyudaSaMagsasakangPilipino #PrayForFilipinoFarmers #SupportFilipinoFarmers #AssistanceToFilipinoFarmers,” Tulfo said.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has said it will issue a clarification that the depiction of farmers in the module is “wrongful.”
