President Rodrigo Duterte has approved recommendation to make advance payments for a coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine, his spokesman announced Thursday.
“Medyo pumayag na tayo na magkaroon tayo ng advance (payments), kasi pag hindi tayo pumayag baka mangulelat tayo doon sa mga bansa na makakakuha ng vaccine,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in virtual presser.
“Alam ko po nung una ay ayaw ng Presidente yan, pero nung nakita niya ang listahan ng mga bansang nag-a-advance payment, hindi naman tayo magapahuli basta meron naman tayong pondo,” he added.
Roque said Duterte also agreed to various modes of financing including the public-private tripartite agreements without cost to government.
The President will likewise issue an executive order allowing the Food and Drug Administration to authorize the emergency use of vaccines, he furthered.
“Mapapabilis yung proseso ng paggamit ng mga bakuna na meron na ring authorization sa mga FDAs ng mga bansa kung saan na-develop ang mga vaccines,” he concluded.
