Duterte no longer fear the coronavirus: ‘Vaccine is near’

President Rodrigo Duterte said he is no longer afraid of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), saying that a vaccine is around the corner.

In his weekly address Tuesday evening, Duterte said China and the United States have developed a vaccine for the virus.

“So the vaccine is near. There is a hope for mankind. Pero ako, wala pang bakuna ito, hindi na ako takot. Maybe, maybe not, depende sa suwerte mo sa buhay. But for the succeeding generations, mga anak ko, mga apo ko, I am quite confident with the thought that they have a refuge which they can take shelter dito sa COVID storm,” according to him.

Duterte also said the government can borrow US$300 million to purchase vaccines against Covid-19 for distribution to Filipinos.

“But [Finance Secretary] Sonny [Dominguez] says that he can borrow money of 300 million [US dollars] plus to So malaki iyan. Makakabili tayo,” he added.

As of November 10, the Philippines recorded a total of 399,749 Covid-19 cases, 361,919 of which recovered and 7,661 died.
