Duterte tells critics: Kill relatives so you can visit graves on All Souls’ Day

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte urged those who criticized his absence on the first day of typhoon “Rolly” to kill one of their relatives so they can visit the cemetery on All Souls’ Day.

In his pre-recorded address late Thursday, Duterte once again defended his absence during the onslaught of the typhoon, saying he went home to Davao City to visit the grave of his departed parents.

“This will be a redundant explanation but uulitin ko lang sa mga tao hindi nila alam ay umuwi ako ng probinsiya sa Davao kasi Araw ng Patay. Iyon ‘yung araw na kasagsagan nang dumaan ang bagyo,” the chief executive said.

Last Monday, Duterte conducted an aerial inspection of areas devastated by the typhoon and visited Guinobatan, Albay on his way to Manila.

They want me to commit suicide also. But the following day… diretso na ako sa Bicol. I also had an accurate view of the destruction brought about by the typhoon.

In its latest report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the damage to agriculture and infrastructure due to Rolly climbed to more than P11 billion.

At least 25 people died after the typhoon devastated the Bicol region.
