Duterte to rights group: Help instead of criticizing drug war

By Prince Golez

Instead of going after the government, President Rodrigo Duterte urged human rights groups to encourage addicts to stop using drugs.

In a late-night televised address Monday, Duterte lashed out again on human rights groups who consistently condemn his violent drug war.

“Itong droga, anak ng jueteng. Kayong mga human rights, magtulong talaga kayo. If you see the briefer, the persons arrested for the day, hindi magkulang sa 200, 300. That is how pernicious drug is in the Philippines,” the Chief Executive claimed.

“Ang problema natin, ang kalaban natin dito is the [Sinaloa] and the Bamboo Triad. Iyan ang problema natin, so organized na talagang may mga factory na sila kung saan-saan and it is a worldwide business. Kaya tayo, hoy mga p****** i** kayong mga human rights. Kung hindi ba ninyo tinitingnan iyan, it’s being posted at the [8888] bulletin. Bigyan ko kayo ng kopya. Mabuti pa bigyan ko kayo ng kopya.

“Convince these people nasa listahan to stop kasi sabihin mo maghinto kayo kay baka mamatay kayo. That is the proper way of doing things,” he also said.

Rights group Human Rights Watch had earlier said that the number of killings related to the government’s war on illegal drugs increased by 50 percent during the coronavirus lockdown from April to July 2020.
