Congress is resisting the establishment of the proposed Department of Disaster Resilience, according to President Rodrigo Duterte.
In an ambush interview Sunday, Duterte said that some lawmakers opposed the creation of a new department as there will be a duplication of work.
“We’re having a resistance, sa Congress mismo. May iba doble na daw. It’s a duplication of work. Tama na daw ‘yang isa,” the Chief Executive said.
“Pero sa akin, okay lang, I can do it in the meantime na maski ‘yan lang. What is important is that you have the machineries and you have the equipment, and you have the money, and people are there deployed before the typhoon comes,” he also said.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council currently oversees the concerted efforts of national and local governments in relation to natural and man-made disasters.
