Government puts Davao City back to GCQ

By Prince Golez

Davao City has been reverted back to general community quarantine (GCQ) status from modified GCQ until November 30 due to rising cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), Malacañang announced Friday.

“The City of Davao is placed under GCQ effective immediately until November 30, 2020, following the rise of Covid-19 cases in the city,” according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

In a statement, Roque said that Melquiades Feliciano, Deputy Chief Implementer of the National Task Force Against Covid-19 for Bacolod City and Cebu City, has been assigned to head the Coordinated Operations to Defeat the Epidemic teams that will be deployed in Davao City to assist in the response activities.

A One Hospital Command Center will be established in the city to ensure an effective health facility referral system, the Palace official said, noting that private hospitals are mandated to allot 30 percent of their bed capacity for COVID cases.

He added that efforts will be made to address the shortage of nurses in health facilities and to provide additional high-oxygen cannulae, Favipiravir (Avigan), Remdesivir, medical equipment, among others.

Accommodation establishments will also be tapped to serve as quarantine facilities for health workers and the isolation of confirmed cases, said Roque.

Law enforcement agencies are likewise directed to assist in the enforcement of granular lockdowns in areas severely affected by Covid-19, and if necessary, deploy personnel in the city.
