MIA si mayor! Jeff Soriano parties out of town as Tuguegarao suffers ‘worst flooding’ in years

Tuguegarao, Cagayan Mayor Jefferson Soriano celebrated his birthday with family away from the province as the city suffered what he admitted to be the “worst flooding” in years.

No less than Soriano’s own daughter, socialite and businesswoman Bea Soriano Dee, revealed the mayor wasn’t in Tuguegarao as houses were submerged in water due to the water released from Magat Dam.

Bea shared a photo of herself with the mayor in an Instagram post on Thursday, (November 12), as Typhoon Ulysses ravaged Luzon. The caption read: “I didn’t even think I would see you for the rest of the year. So having you here with us is the best gift ever [two hearts emoji]. happy happy birthday to my man, my fave petite papa (haha) [two hearts emoji].”

The socialite-businesswoman admitted her father had to rush back to Tuguegarao when netizens slammed her over his absence during a crisis.

“He is there now. He cut his trip short and without hesitation took a 16 hour car trip right when the roads were passable,” Bea said.

“And if my mom weren’t a senior she would have braved those floods too as she usually does!!” she added.

In an interview over dzMM radio Friday (November 13), Soriano described the situation in Tuguegarao as the “worst flooding” it experienced since 1972. He said 39 out of 49 barangays in the city were submerged in water.

“Marami pa po ang nangangailangan i-rescue. Ang hirap po diyan is habang nag su-subside po ang water sa ibang lugar, dito po sa Tuguegarao lumalaki ang tubig,” he said.

Soriano attributed the heavy flooding to waters coming from Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, and Magat Dam in Isabela.
