Malacañang said it respects the decision of a Quezon City court convicting couple Benito and Wilma Tiamzon of kidnapping and serious illegal detention.
“We respect the decision of the Quezon City court convicting Benito and Wilma Tiamzon for a crime that happened in 1988,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement Friday.
Roque also called the court’s decision against the National Democratic Front peace consultants as “a triumph of the justice system.”
“The long arm of the law has finally caught up with the Tiamzon couple,” according to him.
“It clearly shows that the wheels of justice continue to grind,” he added.
Their conviction stemmed from a 1988 case where four military officers were held captive by the communist group in Quezon province.
