House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco made history with the record-number designation of deputy speakers under his watch.
The Lower House now reportedly has 32 deputy speakers following the election of two more solons to the post Wednesday.
The latest House phenomenon did not sit well with former Quezon Rep. Erin Tañada. The former Deputy Speaker for Luzon is saddened that the House position has been dangled as a political reward.
“It’s really sad. Being a Deputy Speaker is not as it was,” he tweeted.
“When I was in the House there were 6 (Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao plus 3 coming from the major political parties who are part of the majority coalition). Now, the position is treated as a reward for support,” he said.
“I was the Deputy Speaker for Luzon…Raul Daza for Visayas…Beng Climaco for Mindanao…Noli Fuentabella for NPC…Pabling Garcia for NUP… Boying Remulla for NP (2010-2013),” he said.
