Can’t please everybody: Ping bares bashing from all sides, including AFP, Palace over red-tagging

At least they showed the hearings are fair.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Thursday said he has been at the receiving end of online bashing over the recent hearings he chaired on the red-tagging issue.

Lacson, who chairs the Senate defense committee that conducted the hearings, noted the bashing came from anti- and pro-government accounts – including those traced to the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Malacanang.

“That comes with the territory. Given my decades in public service, I have accepted that I cannot please everybody, especially in such a sensitive issue. But with that said, considering that both sides are bashing me on social media means I am doing something right. Otherwise, if one side keeps bashing me and the other keeps praising me, that might be a sign of bias,” he said in an interview on DZAR radio.

On the other hand, he said he appreciates the “clarification” by Makabayan Rep. Carlos Zarate of his earlier statement that the Senate hearings had been reduced to a venue for “witch-hunting.”

Zarate had backtracked on his statements, saying his accusations were directed to the NTF-ELCAC.

Lacson said what is important is that the public has been enlightened on the issue through the Senate hearings, which he adjourned last Dec. 1.

“What is important is that the hearings have helped enlighten the public on the issue,” he said.
