The position of Deputy Speaker has become a run of the mill appointment, no thanks to House Speaker Lord Allan Jay Velasco.
As of Monday (December 14), there are now 30 Deputy Speakers following the election of Cavite Rep. Strike Revilla to the post.
Having 30 Deputy Speakers means close to 10 percent of the 304-member House holds the plum post.
Revilla, a former stalwart of the National Unity Party (NUP), recently jumped ship to Lakas-CMD.
Being a Deputy Speaker comes not just with power, but even perks.
Last year, Senator Panfilo Lacson revealed a supposed plan to give each Deputy Speaker a P1.5-billion allocation, higher than the reported P700-million budget allotted to each House member.
