‘Di pa aprub ng FDA! Lorenzana: COVID-19 vaccines injected into PSG personnel smuggled

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Wednesday (December 30) said the COVID-19 vaccines administered to members of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) were smuggled.

At the sidelines of the Rizal Day commemoration in Luneta, Lorenzana confirmed that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) did not give authorization to the COVID-19 vaccine.

“Yeah, smuggled kasi hindi authorized pumasok dito. Only the government can authorize that through the FDA,” he said.

Lorenzana said the unauthorized COVID-19 vaccine may have entered the country in small batches.

It was President Rodrigo Duterte who revealed that some soldiers already received the COVID-19 vaccine from Sinopharm even if the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet authorized any vaccine for use in the country.

Pressed for details on Duterte’s pronouncement, the AFP said it was PSG personnel who received the vaccine.

Lorenzana believes there was no security breach in what PSG did since they had good intentions. However, he said the group should explain their actions.

“Kailangan ipaliwanag ng PSG ’cause they violated FDA rules… Explain ng PSG bakit ginawa ‘yun,” he said.

Lorenzana said he’s unaware when the PSG personnel were vaccinated, but it happened more than a month ago.
