‘Di sila exempted sa hawahan! Duque opposes decision to allow children in malls

By Prince Golez

The Department of Health (DOH) is against allowing children 15 years and below, as long as they are accompanied by their parents, in malls.

In a virtual DOH media forum Wednesday, Secretary Francisco Duque III said he discouraged parents from bringing their kids to malls because of the continuing impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Ang posisyon namin hindi nagbabago. Hanggat sa maaari i-discourage lahat dahil meron pa ring risk,” according to Duque.

“Halos mga 3 to 5 percent ng ating total infected cases ay sa mga bata nangyari. So, hindi sila exempted sa hawahan,” he added.

On Monday, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said that areas under general community quarantine are allowed to accept kids inside malls if accompanied by parents, pending the passage of ordinances.
