Foreign tourists still barred entry to PH – Nograles

The Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) has yet to decide on allowing foreign tourists to enter the country.

In an interview on Balitang Sapolitika on Wednesday, IATF co-chair and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said only returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are being allowed to enter the country as well as those for the purpose of economic activities

“Yung mga importanteng economic activities at saka kailangan natin bigyan ng pahintulot or permission to come here from other countries, yun palang po yung mga pinapayagan natin,” he said.

“So far, for purposes of tourism, for leisure medyo nagstri-strikto pa tayo dahil nga po sa Delta variant. We need to ensure na di madagdagan ang Delta variant dito sa ating bansa,” he added.

Nograles explained that what the IATF is doing right now is currently updating the “greenlisted” countries. Greenlisted countries mean that they have low number of COVID-19 cases and has no recorded Delta variant case.

“Itong mga green countries, kung fully vaccinated kayo at galing kayo sa green countries for the past fourteen days at fully vaccinated naman, at ma-prove na fully vaccinated, seven days quarantine lang po pagdating dito sa bansa,” he said.

On the other hand, the IATF has also come up with a recommendation on quarantine classifications which Metro Manila mayors can contest. On Wednesday night, they arrived at the agreement to allow Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) to be hoisted as long as cash aid will be provided by the government.

The President then approved General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions to be placed in the National Capital Region (NCR) from August 1 to August 15.
