Duterte can sign 2021 budget this month — Romualdez

There won’t be any reenacted national budget next year.

The proposed national budget for 2021 can be signed into law by President Duterte this month, according to House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez.

In a Facebook post, Romualdez expressed confidence about the enactment of the budget after the bicameral conference committee had a fruitful meeting on the proposed legislation. The 2021 budget proposal includes massive allocations for efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic, provide aid to affected sectors, and revive the country’s sluggish economy.

“The Senate and the House of Representatives held a fruitful Bicameral Conference Committee meeting yesterday regarding the 4.5 trillion 2021 national budget,” Romualdez said.

The budget bill can be ratified by the two houses of Congress before they adjourn on Dec.19 for a month-long Christmas break.

“We are targeting the ratification of the General Appropriations Bill before going on holiday break, so that the President can sign the budget bill before the year ends. At para rin magtuloy-tuloy na ang muli nating pagbangon sa susunod na taon. Kaya natin ‘to!” Romualdez said.
